Student Guide

This guide covers all features available to students on the R's PlacePrep platform.

Account Creation

Registration

  1. Navigate to the signup page
  2. Provide the following information:
    • Full name
    • Email address (must be unique)
    • Password (minimum 8 characters)
    • Confirm password
  3. Complete the math CAPTCHA verification
  4. Submit the registration form
  5. You will be automatically logged in after successful registration

Login

  1. Navigate to the login page
  2. Enter your registered email and password
  3. Complete the math CAPTCHA verification
  4. Click "Login" to access your dashboard

Practice Mode

Practice mode allows you to study questions without time pressure.

Accessing Company Questions

  1. From the dashboard, navigate to "Companies"
  2. Select a company (e.g., TCS, Infosys, Accenture)
  3. Choose a topic or exam pattern
  4. Browse questions organized by sections

Accessing University PYQs

  1. Navigate to "PYQ" from the main navigation
  2. Select your branch (e.g., CSE, ECE)
  3. Choose the semester
  4. Pick the subject (shown as a dropdown)
  5. Select the year from the sidebar
  6. Browse questions organized by paper sections

PYQ Features

  • View Modes: Switch between "Full View" (questions + answers) and "Questions Only" mode
  • Section Navigation: Jump between MCQ sections, Part A, Part B, etc.
  • Year Selector: Quickly switch between different years' papers
  • Subject Dropdown: Change subjects within the same semester
  • Answer Highlighting: Answers and solutions are highlighted with a green accent for easy identification
  • Export: Download papers as PDF or Word — choose between "Questions Only" or "Full Paper" export

Practice Features

  • View Toggle: Switch between card view and list view
  • Answer Display: Toggle answer visibility for self-assessment
  • Topic Navigation: Jump between different topics and sections
  • No Time Limit: Study at your own pace
  • Unlimited Access: Review questions as many times as needed

Taking Exams

Exam Entry

  1. Navigate to "Available Exams" from your dashboard
  2. Select an exam you want to attempt
  3. Enter your details:
    • Roll number
    • Branch/Department
    • Year of study
  4. Review exam instructions carefully
  5. Click "Start Exam" to begin

During the Exam

Interface Overview

  • Timer: Displays remaining time in the top-right corner
  • Question Navigator: Shows all questions with status indicators
    • Unanswered: Default state
    • Answered: Marked in green
    • Current: Highlighted question
  • Navigation Buttons:
    • Previous: Go to the previous question
    • Next: Move to the next question
    • Submit: End the exam (when enabled)

Question Status

Questions are automatically marked based on your actions:

  • Unanswered: Questions you haven't attempted
  • Answered: Questions where you've selected an answer

Fullscreen Mode

If the exam enforces fullscreen mode:

  • The exam automatically enters fullscreen when started
  • Exiting fullscreen triggers a warning
  • Two violations result in automatic submission
  • Use the fullscreen button to re-enter if accidentally exited

Navigation

You can navigate through questions in multiple ways:

  1. Use the "Previous" and "Next" buttons
  2. Click on question numbers in the navigator
  3. Questions can be accessed in any order

Coding Questions

For exams containing coding questions, a code editor is provided:

Code Editor Features

  • Language Selection: Choose from Python (default), JavaScript, Java, C++, or C
  • Syntax Highlighting: Code is automatically highlighted for readability
  • Line Numbers: Each line is numbered for easy reference
  • Auto-indentation: Proper indentation is maintained as you type

Supported Languages

  • Python: Selected by default with a starter template
  • JavaScript: For web-based solutions
  • Java: Requires class and main method structure
  • C++: For systems programming solutions
  • C: For low-level implementations

Best Practices for Coding Questions

  1. Read the problem carefully: Understand input/output requirements
  2. Plan before coding: Think through your approach
  3. Test edge cases: Consider boundary conditions
  4. Clean code: Write readable, well-commented code
  5. Save frequently: Your progress is auto-saved as you type

Note: Coding questions are manually evaluated by administrators. If you don't attempt a coding question (leave it empty or with only the template), it will be automatically marked as incorrect and won't require manual review.

Submitting the Exam

Early Submission

If allowed by the administrator:

  1. Click the "Submit Exam" button
  2. Review the submission summary showing:
    • Total questions
    • Answered questions
    • Unanswered questions
  3. Confirm submission
  4. View your results immediately

Automatic Submission

The exam auto-submits when:

  • Time runs out
  • Fullscreen violations exceed the limit (if enforced)
  • The exam end time is reached

After Submission

Results Page

After submission, you'll see:

  • Total Score: Points earned out of total possible points
  • Percentage: Your score as a percentage
  • Time Taken: Duration spent on the exam
  • Rank: Your position among all participants (if enabled)
  • Accuracy: Percentage of correct answers
  • Question-wise Analysis:
    • Your answers vs correct answers
    • Points earned per question
    • Detailed explanations (if available)

The exam automatically exits fullscreen mode upon successful submission.

Performance Metrics

  • Questions Attempted: Number of questions answered
  • Correct Answers: Number of correct responses
  • Wrong Answers: Number of incorrect responses
  • Unanswered: Questions left blank

Reviewing Your Answers

After your exam is evaluated, you can review your detailed answers:

  1. Click "Review Answers" on the results page
  2. View each question with:
    • Your submitted answer
    • The correct answer (or acceptable range for numerical questions)
    • Marks awarded
    • Evaluator feedback (if provided)
  3. For coding questions, your code is displayed with any comments from the evaluator

Note: The review page shows both automated and manual evaluator feedback. Use this feedback to understand where you can improve.

Providing Feedback

After completing an exam, you'll be prompted to share your experience:

  1. Click "Give Feedback" on the results page
  2. Rate the exam on various aspects:
    • Overall experience
    • Content quality
    • Difficulty level
    • Time adequacy
  3. Provide optional comments
  4. Submit your feedback

Note: You can only submit feedback once per exam. After submission, the feedback button is replaced with a confirmation message.

Review Requests

If you believe your exam was not evaluated correctly, you can request a review:

Request Guidelines

  • You can request a review up to 2 times per exam attempt
  • Once you've used both requests, no further reviews can be requested
  • Each request must include a detailed message explaining your concern

How to Request a Review

  1. Go to your dashboard
  2. Find the exam in "Recent Exams"
  3. Click "Request Review" (only visible for evaluated exams)
  4. Provide a detailed message (minimum 10 characters) explaining:
    • Which question(s) you want reviewed
    • Why you believe the evaluation was incorrect
  5. Submit your request

Review Statuses

StatusMeaning
EvaluatedYour exam has been graded and results are final
Review RequestedYour review request is pending admin action
Request DiscardedAdmin reviewed your request but found it invalid
PendingExam contains coding questions awaiting manual evaluation

After a Review Request

  • If approved: The admin will re-evaluate your submission and update your score
  • If discarded: You'll see "Request Discarded" status; you can still request another review if you have remaining requests
  • Review count: Even if your request is discarded, it counts toward your 2-request limit

Note: Use review requests responsibly. Provide specific, valid concerns to help administrators address your case efficiently.

Result Lookup

The Result feature allows students to view their BEU (Bihar Engineering University) exam results directly from the platform.

Setting Up

  1. Navigate to "Result" from the user menu (available for logged-in students)
  2. If you haven't already, enter your University Registration Number
  3. Your registration number is saved to your profile for future use

Viewing Results

Once your registration number is linked:

  1. Your results are automatically fetched from the university server
  2. View semester-wise results with:
    • Subject names and marks
    • Overall SGPA/CGPA
    • Pass/fail status for each subject
  3. Click "Refresh" to fetch the latest results

Important Notes

  • Your registration number is securely stored and linked to your account
  • Results are fetched in real-time from the BEU result server
  • If the result server is temporarily unavailable, try again later
  • You can update your registration number from the result page if needed
  • The result feature is only available for BEU students

TNP / Placements

The TNP (Training and Placement) section helps you stay updated with placement opportunities posted by your college's TNP cell or by the super admin.

Accessing TNP Posts

  1. Click "TNP / Placements" from the navigation bar (available on both desktop and mobile)
  2. You will see a list of active placement posts that are relevant to your college and branch

What You Can See

Each placement post includes:

  • Company Name — the company that is hiring
  • Role Offered — the job role or position (if mentioned)
  • Package (LPA) — the salary offered, in Lakhs Per Annum (if mentioned)
  • Deadline — the last date to apply
  • Eligible Branches — the branches that can apply
  • Apply Link — a direct link to apply (Google Form, external website, or other)
  • Attachments — any supporting documents uploaded by the admin (e.g., job description PDF)

How to Apply

  1. Open a placement post that interests you
  2. Click the "Apply" button
  3. You will be redirected to the apply link (e.g., a Google Form or company website)
  4. Your application is tracked within the platform

Post Visibility

  • You will only see posts that are targeted to your college (or to all colleges)
  • You will only see posts that include your branch in the eligible branches list
  • Posts past their deadline are shown separately under "Past" posts

Application Tracking

  • Once you apply, the post is moved to your "Applied" tab
  • You can see the status of your application (applied, shortlisted, etc.)

Note: The TNP section is only available for logged-in students. Make sure you are signed in to see placement posts.

Dashboard

Overview Section

Your dashboard displays:

  • Welcome message with your name
  • Quick access to available exams
  • Recent activity summary
  • Performance statistics

Available Exams

View all exams you can attempt:

  • Active Exams: Currently available for attempt
  • Upcoming Exams: Scheduled for future dates
  • Past Exams: Exams that have ended
  • Status Indicators: Shows if you've already attempted an exam

Performance Analytics

Track your progress:

  • Overall Statistics: Cumulative performance across all exams
  • Topic-wise Performance: Strengths and weaknesses by subject
  • Progress Trends: Performance improvement over time
  • Comparison: How you rank against peers

Best Practices

Preparation Tips

  1. Practice Regularly: Use practice mode before attempting exams
  2. Time Management: Practice with the timer to build speed
  3. Review Mistakes: Analyze incorrect answers to learn from errors
  4. Attempt All Questions: Unless there's negative marking
  5. Stay Calm: Don't panic if you don't know an answer

During Exams

  1. Read Instructions: Carefully review all exam rules
  2. Check Negative Marking: Understand the penalty before guessing
  3. Manage Time: Keep track of time per question
  4. Answer Easy Questions First: Build confidence and save time
  5. Review Answers: Use remaining time to review your responses
  6. Avoid Violations: Don't exit fullscreen or switch tabs

Technical Requirements

  • Stable Internet: Ensure reliable connectivity
  • Updated Browser: Use the latest version of Chrome, Firefox, or Edge
  • Fullscreen Support: Enable fullscreen permissions if required
  • No Distractions: Close unnecessary applications
  • Backup Plan: Have a backup internet connection if possible

Troubleshooting

Login Issues

  • Verify email and password are correct
  • Check CAPS LOCK is not enabled
  • Clear browser cache and cookies
  • Try a different browser
  • Contact administrator if problem persists

Exam Issues

Cannot Start Exam:

  • Check if you're within the exam time window
  • Verify you haven't already attempted the exam
  • Ensure you've filled all required entry details

Timer Not Visible:

  • Refresh the page
  • Check browser console for errors
  • Ensure JavaScript is enabled

Fullscreen Problems:

  • Grant fullscreen permissions to the browser
  • Use F11 key to enter fullscreen
  • Avoid pressing ESC key

Submission Failed:

  • Check internet connection
  • Don't close the browser during submission
  • Wait for confirmation message
  • Contact administrator if answers weren't recorded
